I’ve been crawling through Burbank attics since 2016, and I’ve learned that a poorly vented attic in July is basically a slow cooker with a drywall lid. That’s not a sales pitch; it’s physics. I started Topside after watching too many insulation jobs get done backward - blown-in dumped over unsealed top plates, can lights left leaking conditioned air into the roof deck, no documentation of what actually changed. I hold a BPI Building Analyst certification and I’m the one who still climbs the ladder on jobs where the geometry gets weird. Off the clock, I restore vintage motorcycles in a garage in Magnolia Park that has excellent R-38 and a radiant barrier I installed myself. Every customer gets my cell number. Not because I’m generous - because accountability is cheaper than advertising.
Marcus T. - Senior Installer
Marcus has been with us four years, which in this trade means he’s seen about 1,200 attics and can diagnose a disconnected flex duct by the temperature gradient on the ceiling drywall. He’s certified in spray foam application through the Spray Polyurethane Foam Alliance and he’s the reason we don’t have callback days - he checks his own work with a thermal camera before he loads his tools. Marcus grew up in the Verdugo Woodlands area and still lives there, so when he tells a homeowner in Rancho Adjacent that he’s insulated the house two doors down, he’s probably not exaggerating. He builds electric guitars and has strong opinions about Fender pickup winding that you should not get him started on unless you have twenty minutes.
Dana L. - Service Coordinator
Dana answers the phone when you call (213) 816-1699, and she’s the one who makes sure Wes or Marcus actually shows up when we said they would. She’s been coordinating field teams for eight years, including three with us, and she understands the difference between a homeowner who needs a same-day emergency seal and one who wants to schedule a full envelope audit around their work-from-home calls. Dana handles the written price quotes, the warranty paperwork, and the photo records that get delivered after every job. She lives in the hills above Glenoaks and hikes the Verdugo Mountains on weekends, which means she has personal opinions about south-facing exposure and roof deck temperatures that occasionally show up in her scheduling notes.
Jin S. - Apprentice Technician
Jin joined us in 2024 after two years in residential HVAC and a certification in home energy auditing from the California Homebuilding Foundation. He’s our blower-door test specialist - the person who sets up the fan, runs the depressurization protocol, and records the CFM50 number that tells us exactly how much air your house leaks before we touch anything. Jin is methodical in a way that annoys impatient people and saves expensive mistakes. He grew up in a 1950s tract home in Burbank’s Magnolia Park neighborhood with no insulation in the walls, so he has firsthand experience of what a thermal bypass feels like in February. He’s learning spray foam from Marcus and plans to test for his BPI certification next year.
